Cygwin for Monoers

I am playing with the idea of creating a modified installation of Cygwin that would be optimized for building Mono from source.

This Cygwin installer would have a Mono prerequisites package and a modified (.bashrc) template file so that all of the development environment variables would already be preset upon first install/run.

The user would just insert a CD into the drive and follow the Cygwin setup instructions for installing from a local directory. There would be a Quick start tutorial video to help with the installation of Cygwin.

My prototype already measures 450 MB, so there is no place that I have access to where I could put the ISO image for downloads, so I would have to mail those persons interested a copy of the CD.

Is anyone interested?

Hi Paco,

You could also request a project at sourceforge and the provide a mirror address for the cygwin installer. look at the cygnome2 project, they do that to.

I'm very interested in having a Mono-enabled Cygwin installation, but I'm not interested in the CD. Setting up a Mono-enabled Cygwin repository mirror sounds like a good plan.

Dude,

I'm just a few days away from hosting pjtrix.com at a new provider. I have plenty of storage and bandwidth, and I'll be more than happy to host the CD ISO there.

Email me at pjcabrera AT snapplatform DOT org, and I will reply with my snail mail address.

If you want some control over what the download page looks like, email me a zip with an HTML download page and whatever graphics you want on it. I'll place that in a folder somewhere on pjtrix.com. (/paco-cygwin-mono sound alright to you?) Then I'll edit the HTML to add the right links. I'm thinking it will not hurt to seed a BitTorrent of the ISO from my home server, as well as hosting the ISO from pjtrix.com.

Give me a few days to set up the DNS to the new provider, and as soon as it's ready, I'll email you to announce the page URL here.

PS - My new provider's URL (you might want to consider this as you start churning out more Paco goodies :-D)

Hey, it's PJ again.

You know, forget the HTML zip foolishness I mentioned in my previous comment. You could host the download page here, with all the cutesy graphics you want and full control of the look. And I'll just set up the .torrent and .iso files at pjtrix.com.

Vale, mano? :-)
